Creating a repeat screen print

For my repeat screen I wanted to involve the most known thing of autumn which is falling leafs. I used the line way of creating a repeat screen and decided to do this using 2 screens, one which would be the leaf shapes and one which will show the veins, the way I have placed the leafs make them look Asif they are falling. These are the monochromes I created for my screens.

Making a screen print design

As I enjoyed doing my baby diamond piece I wanted to create an effective screen using autumn animals, I used her style to create a owl, fox and wolf, to finish the screen of I used mushrooms which were my favourite part of my primary imagery, it helps create a band which would be placed around the centre of my bag.

Abby diamond

This shows my contextual studies, I experimented doing a piece in the style of Abby diamond, I used inks and bits to create this piece, where as Abby diamond uses water colours inks and markers, I did enjoy doing this piece as love the effect I have created.

Redbrook

For our new project "nature" I went for a walk in the fields down redbrook (Barnsley) to take some primary images.

Extended sample

For an extended sample I decided to dye a piece of cotton using green (MX2B) and blue (MX2G) dyes this time not watered down, I then printed the piece of cotton with black-SN-G pigment dye, I then wanted to use puff binder within the sample so I added a navy blue- 5RF and black-SN-R pigment to the puff binder and spun my screen and printed it upside down, I was worried due to recent experiment that the pig binder would go really pastly one the heat gun had been used but much to my surprise it went the exact colour I had wanted. I feel this extended sample has worked out just the way I wanted I think with more textile techniques added such as free machining I may use this as my final piece.

Screen print

Here we have my screen prints one is a simple print onto white cotton using a bright blue-G3 dye I blue against the white creates a brilliant effect but yet again I felt it was too bright so I wanted to stay with the blue and green theme and dyed a piece of white cotton with green (MX2B) and blue (MX2G) both watered down and I used a black- SN-G dye to print with, I still felt this was too bright but I was more content with it then I was with the white cotton. I wanted to further experiment with screen print so I decided to do a placement print which I did over the top of each other I did one print using green-B and then two others in different positions using the black- SN-G and I kept the cotton white. I love this it's dark exactly what the saying gives, but it mashes the print so you can't see it all too well,the green-B print showed through the black better then I expected, I the decided to do free machining over the green to make it stand out more, even though the tension wasn't perfect on the machine so it left the stitching quite loopy I feel it gives the print something unusual and quite interesting both to the eye and to touch.
